After a long journey from SFO to Reykjvek, Iceland and then to Gatwick, London. My sore buttocks were ready to move with the beat of the locals in the UK and beyond. We arrived late in the day and found our train ride from Gatwick to Victoria and then roamed around the streets. It is important to remember to stay and look alert, especially in the evenings.
Staying at Wombat’s Hostel in London
We finally got to Wombat’s hostel, wanting a quick dinner. Nothing is open except a McDonald’s a few blocks down. We come back and realized that the hostel had a bar downstairs that had a cool vibe and bustling with people enjoying their food and drinks…the person checking us in apparently forgot to mention that.
We arrive in our room only to find four girls already with all lights out and snoring in their beds. We tried so hard to not disrupt them in their sleep, clumsily trying to figure out how to navigate the locker room and the entire room in the dark. It was 11:30 pm and we didn’t want to disturb them more than we had to. I am surprised how early these girls are already sleeping.
We had to make our own beds and we finally take the last bunks left over. I feel like I have the best bunk for views, but the worst bunk to get to. All windows are open as I have the magnificent views of the skyscrapers that adorned the sky. I feel like I am sleeping closer to the stars as I lie here admiring and taking in the view. I don’t want to sleep because I know that once I sleep and wake up, this won’t be here in the morning and I may never have this again.
I had a difficult time getting up on the bunk bed and finding my way in the dark especially first time in a hostel. However, I still find this experience fun. Though I found the hostel experience to be somewhat inconvenient, I am glad to experience it at least once.
I wanted to capture this moment of freedom, sense of calm, and beauty forever to take with me. May I drift to sleep with sweet dreams of this.
