In Slovenia, visiting as much of the Triglavski National Park as possible will put your mind and heart at peace in its fairytale, yet natural, and tangible beauties. It is not only for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy, but also for anyone who appreciates nature.
It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. I wish everyone could enjoy and appreciate a place as marvelous as this park. I hope it remains forever pure as I’ve seen it.
Transportation
Slovenia may not be super large, but the park may not be the easiest to get to. You can take a bus or drive a car but not everyone is comfortable driving through the mountains as it can get windy up top, or you might need to stop for these cute animals. Another option is to go with a day tour that picks you up from Ljubljana to explore.
Hiking
With pristine and stunningly clear views all around, hiking is a great way to take in what is around. There are recommended trails to help you pick your route.
The Julian Alps are the highest peak of Mount Triglav. You can hike the Alps on a tour or independently. Just make sure you are prepared with everything you need.
Soča Valley
The Soča Valley is an excellent region for many outdoor activities. Trails, cycling, and rafting are popular here.
Soča Valley Region Highlights (Southwestern Triglav National Park)
Soča River
While you can see the river anywhere between Bovec and Kobarid, this Soča River Viewpoint is where we walked down to the river and touched the water and walked the suspension bridge. The waters are just so clear and a beautiful aqua green.
Walk the wooden bridge over the pristine river. Take in the 360-degree view of the serene yet exciting nature around you.
Trenta Valley
Trenta is located in the heart of Triglav National Park, near the border with Italy. The drive is serene, and there are many beautiful sights nearby. This is also the entry to the upper Soča River.
Kobarid
There was a lively marathon for adults and children when we arrived.
Kobarid War Museum
The Kobarid War Museum gives a unique and in-depth account of what happened during World War I on the Soška fronta – Isonzo Front. It is a meaningful stop for history buffs.
Slap Kozjak
Walk further into nature and be rewarded with Slap Kozjak or Kozjak Waterfall.
With a short walk careful maneuvering on the rocks and ledges, it is possible to experience this mini hidden gem.
The bridge in the distance is where to walk over to the waterfall.
Walking on the bridge.
Another perspective.
Amazing scenery around, and while crossing the bridge.
Some more views around.
Bovec
Letni Vrt

Lunch at Letni Vrt was a pleasant experience. We enjoyed our meal in the patio seating.
There is an extensive menu for any appetite.
My friend ordered a pizza, and I ordered the grilled trout with garlic and parsley.
More bread.
Vršič Pass and Surroundings (Mountain Crossing)
This gorgeous Vršič Pass, a high alpine mountain pass, provided a memorable drive. As we drove passed, we took a small hike and took in the mountain peaks and towers, with sheep surrounding us. This area connects the Soča Valley with the north side of the Julian Alps. The road is very scenic and historic.

Russian Chapel
We later also see the Russian Chapel built to honor Russian prisoners who died making the roads to the mountain during the war.
We were told that Putin would occasionally visit. Due to its history, there are many cemeteries throughout the mountains.
Kranska Gora Area (Northeastern Triglav NP)
Kranska Gora is famous for skiing.
We are looking at Špik, a mountain of the Julian Alps, and it is picturesque, definitely worth taking the time to take a deep breath of fresh air and let that image soak in.
Jasna Lake
Lake Bohinj (Southern Triglav NP)
Visit this large tranquil glacier lake and the church that sits beside it.
Lake Bohinj feels less touristy and calmer than Lake Bled. Both are worth visiting.
Such clear waters.
Go up the bell tower of the church
We were able to do all this in a day’s car road trip! There are so many ways, more days, and seasons to come back to Triglav NP to experience it in all its various possibilities—whether skiing on the snowy peaks or kayaking through the pristine waters.
How many times would you want to come back?
