Casual Find
Ogura Cha-Ya

This adorable, quaint restaurant blends seamlessly into its surroundings and offers quality udon noodles and comfort food. We came here after visiting the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

There is even a YouTube channel where you can watch a live view of the gardens.

MINOKICHI: Kyoto Cuisine Traditional Restaurant (Kyoto)

This Kyoto-style kaiseki restaurant was founded in 1716 during the Kyoho era of the Edo period. It felt like a grand meal, yet still healthy and light. Everything is curated with balanced, light flavors and presented artistically and beautifully.

This dobin is what inspired my culinary desire to recreate it when I return home. I bought one myself in the shopping district in Osaka.
You can view my post on where to get your own here.

Caffeine Finds
The coffee has been great, and so has the matcha. Plenty of places to try.
Arabica Coffee

It sits along the edge of the bamboo forest, with gorgeous scenery, before you enter the nearby attractions.

This location is small but mighty. There is a long line because of the notable location.

You could order ahead of time or take in the scenery as you wait.

Ippodo Tea

Ippodo Tea is a popular tea shop that houses a wide variety of tea and matcha. It is a great spot for tea lovers.

Order tea to drink on site or buy it as a souvenir to take home. While we were there, they were renovating, so I am sure it offers an even better experience now! They have other shops throughout Japan.
Kyo ha Matcha de Kimeru
京は抹茶でキメる

I appreciate the degree of matcha they offer. After a chat with them, I finally decided on one. I always appreciate a strong cup.

The red bean paste added a great textural element and a slightly sweet touch.

Food Finds for Next Time
I didn’t book far enough ahead for a specialty tofu spot. They say the water in Kyoto is what makes the tofu famous and extra delicious. If you love tofu and want to try a specialty menu in Kyoto, book way in advance just to make sure you get in.
Here are some options:
Yudofu Sagano (湯豆腐 嵯峨野) — Arashiyama
Tousuiro (豆水楼) — Gion & Kiyamachi
Let me know which ones you recommend I visit in the future!
May you be happy and healthy!
